Project Colony West Council (PCWC) Zunheboto in collaboration with the colony COVID-19 task force launched “mask awareness campaign” on Friday. The colony also inaugurated waste garbage bin.

A press release by the colony informed that Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Zunheboto and administrator Zunheboto Town Council (ZTC), Hito Sema spoke on the importance of proper waste management especially during COVID-19 pandemic. He also highlighted the importance of plastic waste management.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Zunheboto, Dr Akaho Sumi spoke on “mask awareness campaign”. He said wearing mask in addition to social distancing and use of hand sanitizers was the only weapon we have now to fight against the virus.

Dr. Akaho said as per the newly released WHO instructions the virus was suspected to be airborne. He encouraged the people to follow the laid down guidelines as the state was also witnessing growth in COVID-19 positive cases.

Deputy Commissioner Zunheboto Peter Lichamo lauded the colony leaders for taking initiative to organise the campaign. He lamented that despite repeated appeals to wear masks, public are yet to adhere the rules.

He further urged the police personnel on duty to restrict people from holding hands and also urged the Zunheboto Chambers of Commerce and Industries to strictly enforce the use of masks and hand sanitizers in business establishments.

Meanwhile, the colony has informed that after seeking approval from the DC, the council has resolved to deny any person, without face masks, to enter or cross the colony.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Vihoshe Murru, chairman PCWC and convenor colony task force; invocation by assistant Pastor (SBCZ) Agape Chishi and vote of thanks by GB (Project Colony West) Ghokhato Kiba.
