‘On Naga Christainty and Hindu rituals’

Recently there were some uproars in Social Medias, regarding the Nagaland’s BJP President and  Minister, Shri Temjen Imna Along Longkumer bringing the ‘urn’ containing the ashes of Late AB Vajpayee, Former PM of India. Images were also circulated where the Naga Minister was seen performing rites before the Late Leader’s portrait.

But all these gossiping, comments and Social Media’s arguments and debates were given a grinding halt, when finally, it was published in Newspapers on Sunday 26/08/2018 under the heading “DESPITE CRITICISM, BJP IN NAGALAND WILL IMMERSE VAJPAYEE’S ASHES” and they (BJP) plans to immerse the Ashes into ‘Doyang River’.. (Yes folks, you heard it right.., in Doyang), which is so ‘Outrageous and Blasphemous’ to the sacred Naga Christian domain.

The so called ‘Mainland Indians’ can immerse the Ashes into River Ganga or Yamuna or Brahmaputra or where ever they want to and if the Nagaland’s BJP wants to do the same, why not do it in their own backyard in Swimming Pool, or Fisheries or anywhere, for all I care, but why in our ‘Doyang’.

Yes during Pujas, the Hindu Community used to immerse their Gods and Goddesses into the River, where all the ‘Rituals’ are done by the people of Hindu Faith themselves, but here, the so called ‘Actors’ are being/to be enacted/acted by our very own ‘Naga Christian Brothers’.

Honestly, I have nothing to do with Indian Politics but whether Naga Politicians, or Bureaucrats, or NPGs or Public, we are, afterall Naga Christians and such things though seem minor, may cause Commotion, Social uproar and Social unrest, when ‘Blasphemy or Sacrilege’ is directed (though may be inadvertent) towards our Sacred ethos, and also disturb the Social and Religious fabric, that we so lovingly cherish.

I’m in no way a ‘Fanatic Religious Individual’ sir (believe me) but I am speaking on all ‘Religious Perspectives’, that no ‘Religious Sentiments’ of a particular  ‘Region or Domain’ should be hurt or disturbed.

Like I said, I have nothing to do with Indian Politics, yet the ‘Political Goodwill’ achieved by Shri Temjen Imna is ‘umpteen times’ worth appreciating. In addition to that, The donating of the ‘Bolero SUVs’ to a certain department which was meant to purchase his Official Cars...., The availing of Theological Students’ of their Scholarships, and if I’m not mistaken (plz correct me if I’m wrong) I think he also did declare to donate all his monthly Salaries and Allowances for some particular purpose....., All these good works, which is one of its kind among ‘Naga Politicians’ simply cannot go away without being appreciated and acknowledged.

However, leaving aside those, I for one simply cannot digest the so called ‘Asti Kalash or Kalasha’ or whatever the heck that might be are (I believe) all ‘Hindu Rituals’ which we Nagas never practices either in Religious, Social or Cultural aspect, while performing ‘Last Rites’ for our Loved ones, or departed friends or Leaders and is so ‘Un-Naganess and Alien’ to us ‘Naga Christians’.

Having said all these, and apart from that one particular thing (Hindu Ritual) I would be a ‘Liar, Self Centered Selfish Bum’ and a ‘Cynical, Sarcastic Prick’ loathed with Prejudices, if I am to say that all his (Temjen Imna’s) other ‘Great Works’ are not commendable which, per se cannot be ignored or without giving ‘Kudos’ to.
