‘Single-window tax’ for 2 deptts: Patton

Nagaland deputy chief minister, Y Patton, who is also minister in charge of home and road & bridges, said that taxation by state agencies would be minimised as the government was taking the issue of multiple taxation seriously.

He said the matter would be discussed at the state cabinet over multiple taxation by geology & mining department and forest department “turn into a single window to collect tax.” The minister made the statement when asked about the drive against illegal and multiple taxation at check gates in Dimapur by the Public Action Committee (PAC) at the Nagaland BJP press conference held at Hotel Japfü here Wednesday on the occasion of “Gandhi Sankalp yatra” 150th Birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi to be launched from October 2-30, 2019.

The minister’s disclosure for a single-window tax for the two departments came after much flak about collection of multiple tax on the same items.

Asked about the recent tour by a central team to ENPO areas, Patton said that government of India was going to consider some economic packages for ENPO areas. He recalled that the visit came against the backdrop of the assurances for economic package for ENPO areas made by prime minister Narendra Modi during the 2018 assembly election campaign in Tuensang. 

During press conference, Patton highlighted various steps taken by Modi 2.0 government to strengthen economy in the last one month. 

On the BJP stand with regard to the ongoing Naga peace process, state BJP president and minister, Temjen Imna Along, said that when solution arrived, party would follow the directive of the high command. 

He said Nagaland BJP party would listen to voice of the Naga people and do what was best for the Naga people. 

 Along claimed that party representatives in the PDA ministry were performing well in their assigned portfolios and the party will its best to fulfil the mandate giving to the party by the people. 

He informed that during the “Gandhi Sankalp yatra” the party in the state, BJP would take up various activities as per the directive of the central party. 

Along said that cleanliness drive activities would be carried out across the state led by deputy chief minister including all BJP legislators and all rank and file of the party.

Along said Gandhi Sankalp Yatra (GSY) campaign programme would be launched on October 2, the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, and culminate on October 30.

Throughout the country, the party is planning to travel 150 km in 15 days in their respective parliamentary constituency and reach out to the people, he said.

Minister of PHE Jacob Zhimomi, who was also present , expressed a desire that sooner the solution arrived, the better for the Nagas. He, however, said that the talks should be inclusive of all sections in order to avoid another problem after the solution.

The press conference was also attended by advisors Kazheto Kinimi, Dr. Longriniken, and H. Khehovi Yepthomi besides party lead.
