World breastfeeding week was observed from August 10 to 16 under Tuensang district, wherein activities were carried out in every health unit with the aim to “Support breast feeding for a healthier planet”.

A press release by DMO Tuensang, Apheang stated that, in Tonglongsor village, community health officer (CHO) Tonglongsor Health and Wellness Centre (H&WC), Longtila M Sangtam, took initiative on creating awareness to community on the importance of breastfeeding. She encouraged the mothers for early initiation of breastfeeding and to do exclusive breastfeeding till 6 months of age for improving nutrition and building up natural immunity. Mothers were also encouraged on complementary feeding after 6 months, as breast milk alone was not sufficient to meet the needs of the baby.

Programme was held at Tonglongsor sub-centre H&WC under Chare block on August 16. During the programme, pregnant woman, lactating mothers, anganwadi workers and ASHAs attended.
