‘World Toilet Day’ observed in Dimapur

World Toilet Day, an annual international observance marked by the United Nations to create awareness on open defecation and good sanitary practices was observed at Showuba (old), Kuhuboto subdivision under the theme “Leaving no one behind, drawing attention to those people being left behind without sanitation” on November 19.

A press release by PHED Kuhuboto stated that, sanitation and hygiene consultant, PHED (Rural) division Dimapur, Imojungla Longkumer spoke on the significance of the day. She shared on the sustainable development goal to eliminate open defecation and ensure access to sustainable sanitation services by 2030, with special reference to women, girls and vulnerable sections.

Based on the theme SDO, Kuhuboto, Er. R. Imtisowa initiated to construct toilets for two most deserving aged persons from the host village, with material support by the department in collaboration with the community on the occasion. 

Earlier in the day, social work and individual household cleaning was carried out to observe the day. 

The programme was organized by PHED rural division, Dimapur and sponsored by WSSO, PHED, Kohima.
