11th open basketball tourney in Kohima

The 11th Open Basketball Tournament (OBT) got underway Monday here at Khuochiezie, Kohima Local ground. The tournament is being organised by Suncity Kohima in association with the Nagaland Basketball Association.

On first day of the tournament, TMB, Kohima Royals, Last Kings and Amplified won their respective matches. In the first match, TMB beat Ophidians 66-25. Jumani led the team with 14 points for TMB.

 Kohima Royals defeated XLR8 by 62-43, Last Kings hammered Art City Warriors 52-19 and in the fourth match, Amplified overpowered CMD Hoopers 55- 39. 

The fifth match between Taurus and Elite Basketball was postponed due to rain.

Earlier in the inaugural programme, Er. Medozhazo Rutsa, president, Suncity Kohima said the club was formed in 1998 and organised its first Open Basketball Tournament (OBT) in 2001. From the third edition (2003), the club in collaboration with Nagaland Basketball Association (NBA) have been organising the OBT for the past 18 years, said Rutsa.

To nurture the local talents, the organisers have only allowed players from the state to participate from the 9th edition despite turn out from other states, he added.  

Rutsa also acknowledged the players and the fans for making OBT one of the most prestigious basketball tournaments in Nagaland. The president also paid tribute to two senior members, late Xavier Rutsa and Late KK Paul Rutsa during the occasion.  

Dr. Kevichalie Metha, pastor, Peraciezie Baptist Church offered the invocation prayer.
