13th Open Naga Wrestling begins

A total of 86 Naga wrestlers would be vying for the top spot at the 13th Naga Wrestling Championship to be held from Friday at Khuochiezie (local ground), Kohima, from 9 a.m. onwards.

Two wrestlers including one each from non-wrestling community Ao and Lotha tribes have confirmed their participation.

Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) president Dr. Hiabe Zeliang informed that 61 wrestlers will compete for below 80 kg title, while 25 wrestlers for 80 kg and above. Quarter finalists in both the categories would then vie for the ultimate championship. 

Reigning Open NWA champion Menuosetuo Yiese will defend his title. He overpowered Venuzo Dawhuo to lift the title in the final bout during the previous edition of the championship. 

Other prominent wrestlers for the championship includes former Open NWA champion Dzieselatuo Keretsü, former Zeliang champion Nlumrai Hegwang, former NWA champion Vechita Khesoh among the others. 

Entry tickets for spectators will be Rs. 150 for gallery, Rs. 500 for chairs and donors at Rs. 2000. 

In a first for NWA, this year, the association in collaboration with RamieTech Solutions would be introducing pay per view (PPV) for interested wrestling fans who wish to stay at home and watch the game. 

Interested individuals would be able to access live stream of the championship by visiting www.nagawrestling.org. To access PPV, one can register as a member at the website provided above after which members can visit the dashboard payment link, which would be provided and after a payment of Rs 500 per access has been made through any mode they can access the live stream on their registered devices. NWA has appealed wrestling lovers to minimize traffic jam by being mindful of their car parkings at the same time interested spectators have been requested to strictly follow SOPs laid down by the government.

The inaugural programme will be graced by advisor, Youth  Resources and Sports Er. Zale Neikha and Minister for Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue & Parliamentary Affairs, Neiba Kronu, as the guest and special guest respectively.  The event would be hosted by Chakhesang Wrestling Association, while ground would be managed by Chakhesang Christian Revival Churches Youth Association.
