144 CrPC in Mon as it gears up for elections

Correspondent MON, APR 10 (NPN) | Publish Date: 4/10/2019 12:25:21 PM IST

Deputy Commissioner Mon has promulgated the enforcement of section 144 of CrPC in Mon district from 6 am of April 9 to 6 pm of April 12.

Assembling and movement of more than five persons within Mon District is restricted.

The prohibitory order states that this was found necessary to create a conducive environment for free and fair polling and ensure that no unscrupulous elements are able to engage in nefarious activities like distribution of cash, gifts, liquor etc to unduly induce and influence electors for extracting political mileage.

However,  house-to-house visits during the 48 hours in connection with door-to-door campaigning, and movement by government officials on election duty, those coming to vote during poll day, and emergency services have been exempted from the purview of order. Mon district, with 1,39,179 eligible voters (73162 male and 66017 female), will exercise its franchise to help elect the lone Lok Sabha representative from Nagaland.

Out of 237 Polling Stations (PSs), 16 have been categorised as vulnerable, 31 as critical and 190 normal.

Thirty five polling stations will be operated by Female Polling Officials (FPO). It has also been learnt that polling at 29 PSs will be web cast and 18 PSs will be monitored via offline videography.

Polling Officials (PO) began to be dispatched on April 9 to far flung and interior villages, categorized as P-2 polling stations, while the rest of the polling officials left on April 10 to their respective PSs.

All polling officials despatched to P-2 polling stations yesterday have been confirmed as having reached their respective PSs.
