NH-29 Land Owners’ Union (Purana Bazaar to Chumukedima) has set a 15-day deadline for the State government to resolve the land compensation issue.

Alleging that owners were not being paid compensation for their land in the ongoing four-lane road construction project from Purana Bazaar to Chumukedima, the union’s office bearers submitted a memorandum in this regard to Dimapur deputy commissioner (DC) Kevekha Kevin Zehol during a meeting with him here on May 1. They conveyed to the DC that the union’s cooperation for successful implementation of the project now depended on the government’s response on the issue.

Besides not being compensation for their land, the union alleged that many commercial buildings were also being demolished in clear violation of high court’s standing order. It warned of taking its own course of action to safeguard the inalienable rights of the land owners, if the demolition continues.

During the meeting, the DC acknowledged rights of the land owners and assured full cooperation to the union by expediting the matter to ensure that the land owners are not deprived of their rights. He also urged the union not to obstruct the ongoing construction activities.

Meanwhile, the union appealed to the land owners along NH-29 who have not registered to contact the area in-charge at the earliest without fail. For any query or registration, land owners residing in Kohima have been asked to contact the union’s general secretary (85758 54357), joint secretary (88373 68802) and information secretary (76408 31817). This was stated in a press release issued by union’s information & publicity secretary Kewetso Kenye.
