19th NSF martyrs’ memorial trophy from September 20

The 19th Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) Martyrs’ memorial trophy organized by Angami Students’ Union (ASU) will kick off from September 22 and culminate on October 21 at Kohima local ground. 

The tournament is organized in honour of the two martyrs’, late Kekuojalie Sachii of Kohima village and late Vikhozo Yhoshii of Kigwema village, who were killed in the indiscriminate firing of the Nagaland Armed Police from Alichen on March 20, 1986 during a peaceful rally called by the Naga Students’ Federation to protest against the State government’s decision on the Extension of Disturbed Area Belt from 5 km– 20 km along the Indo-Myanmar border and against the induction of Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre into the state of Nagaland.

Announcing this at the press meet, convenor organizing committee Voto Neikha said that the total prize money for this year’s edition has been set at Rs. 5 lakh. 

The champions will receive Rs. 2 lakh, runners-up Rs. 1,20,000, losing semifinalists Rs. 30,000 each and losing quarterfinalists Rs. 15,000 each. 

The convener also said that player of the tournament will receive a two wheeler (scooty) while best goalkeeper, best mid-fielder, best defender and highest scorer will also be awarded. 

With an aim to improve the standard of the tournament, Neikha the organiser has roped in a national referee team from Manipur. The press meet was also attended by ASU president Visako Rino, tribunal member ASU Tsoto Sale and ASU officials.

So far 40 teams have registered and the organiser is expecting more teams including teams from Manipur.  The last date of registration is September 15.

The organizer has also fixed the ticket at Rs. 30 per match and from quarter finals Rs. 50. 

There will be free entry for students in full uniform after classes, participating college students on the match day and special seats for senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PwD).
