The first ever mega ‘Tech Fest’ under the theme “Naga Tech- Redefining ideas” organised by the Department of Technical Education, got under way on August 21 at IG Stadium in Kohima.

The festival will continue till August 23.

Students from the six polytechnic institutes are taking part in the festival, where they will be showcasing their ideas, innovations and inventions etc.

Addressing the inaugural function, Higher & Technical Education, Tribal Affairs minister and chief host for the event said technical education was going to change the outlook of the technocrats of Nagaland. He said, “We as students sometimes become quiet narrow to study what is there in our books but today we have arrived, we would have to redefine our thinking and work hard towards that.”

He said the Naga Tech event was for the Polytechnic students with the hope that one day they will become the forefront of the nation in technology, although they were deprived of the many requirements to make their learning great.

“The need of your requirements should not suppress your learning, if you dare to redefine your ideas you would find technology in the simplest of your surroundings” the minister said.

The minster also said that Nagas need a platform to compete with others and for which he urged the Technical Department to put more effort and ensure that opportunities and avenues are made for progress.

He further called on the students to redefine technology and to inspire other students with their innovations.

Adviser Information & Public Relations, SCERT and Village guard, Toshi Wuntung, who was the special guest, described students as “instruments and laboratories of academia” and urged them to “look beyond the classrooms” besides their theoretical scientific approach.

Commissioner and secretary, Higher Education and Technical Education (HE & TE), Dinesh Kumar addressed the inaugural session. OSD & Convenor Planning Committee Tech Fest, Vipulhou Lhoungu spoke on the introduction of the Tech Fest Nagaland 2019.
