2 arrested with brown sugar worth Rs 20 Lakh

In a major development, Karbi Anglong police have seized a huge quantity of suspected brown sugar from a Bolero Pick Up at the interstate Dillai gate along NH 36 in East Karbi Anglong on Tuesday.

As reported, based on a specific information about movement of contraband drugs, the police personnel manning the interstate Dillai gate set up a naka check over NH 36 near Lahorijan BOP and  intercepted bolero pick up. On frisking, the police found 649 grams of brown sugar concealed under 52 soap cases inside the vehicle. 
The approximate face value of the seized drugs is above 20 Lakh in the black market.
Briefing the media, Bokajan SDPO John Das said, “We have arrested the driver Moinul Haque and helper Ali Hussain. Both are resident of Jamunamukh in Hojai district. 
As per the preliminary interrogation, we learnt that the arrested duo had received the drugs at Dimapur and were suppose to deliver it someone at Doboka bypass. Further investigations are on.” 
It may mentioned that smuggling of drugs and contrabands including ‘Ganza’ have shot up with over a dozen such cases of drug haul in recent times along the Assam-Nagaland interstate border. 
Recently, the Khatkhati police seized a truck trying to smuggle 210 kilo cannabis into Assam through the NH 39. The Khatkhati police had also seized a huge consignment of sedative SP capsules worth 3 lakh from a slum adjacent to Assam-Nagaland border in May.
