24-hr bandh in KA from Aug 14

Ahead of the 72nd Independence Day celebration on August 15, a 24- hour bandh has been reportedly called by ULFA (I), Peoples Democratic Council of Karbi Longri (PDCK) and other militant organizations.

According to reports, the bandh from August 14 will begin from 5 p.m.

Meanwhile, Assam Police is in touch with their counterparts in neighbouring states for coordinated efforts to prevent militants from sneaking into the State to indulge in acts of violence. Moreover, the parade grounds all over the State  are under surveillance with adequate security deployment, The Assam Tribune report stated.

Assam DGP, Kuladhar Saikia said there were been inputs about movement of militants in the inter-state boundary. He said security cover along the vulnerable stretches of the inter-state borders have been increased.   He added that the Assam Police held meetings with the police forces of neighbouring states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Manipur, so that coordinated operations and raids can be carried out along the inter-state boundary areas.
