3 injured in Manipur blast

Three persons including a security personnel were injured after one of two hand grenades hurled by suspected militants went off at the gate of Manipur Legislative Assembly complex Friday evening.

Police said one two hand grenades went off near the sentry post at gate no. 2 of the Manipur Legislative Assembly in Chingmeirong, Imphal at 5.48 pm.

Police recovered the unexploded hand grenade during its spot investigation in the aftermath of the explosion. The injured security personnel identified as RK Mishra from Madhya Pradesh, a rifleman of the 54th battalion BSF, and a dog handler, was guarding the Assembly complex on sentry duty when the hand grenade was exploded. Two staff of the assembly secretariat were also injured in the blast identified as Maibam Manoranjan of Nambol (Bishnupur district), and Yambem Johnny (23) from Charangpat village (Thoubal district). 

The three injured persons were immediately rushed to RIMS hospital.

Hospital sources said that all three were out of danger. Soon after the twin blast, top officials of the state police department and BSF officials in Imphal rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation. 

Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, Y Khemchand also rushed to the spot. The officials also visited RIMS hospital where the injured persons were admitted.
