3280 defaulters were caught without wearing mask in Kohima during the second week of enforcement, tallying to 8660 persons initiated by Association of Kohima Municipal Wards Panchayat (AKMWP).

A press release by AKMWP stated that, president Neibulie Kiewhuo informed that the second week of enforcement stands at 3280 defaulters, with Saturday as the highest number of defaulters at 380. Earlier in the first week 5,380 defaulters were caught without mask in the state capital.

The president stated that the numbers of COVID-19 positives and casualties were increasing almost every day and viewed that the citizens were becoming more carefree and not serious about the fatality of the virus. In this regard, the association has urged the citizens to understand the importance of wearing face mask to protect themselves and the society at large.

It may be mentioned that AKMWP had made wearing of face mask at public places compulsory from November 9, initiated for the safety of the general public and to contain the spread of COVID-19 virus in the community.
