A Kohima Educational Trust (KET) (UK) Scholarship Award 2019 ceremony was held at The Heritage, Kohima on April 6 where 360 selected students of standards 8 to 12 from all over Nagaland received scholarships.

KET CEO, Sylvia May, in her speech expressed delight at awarding a record number of new scholarships this year. She mentioned that when the KET/KES was set up, it was decided that they could do the most by helping young Nagas with their education, assisting with school fees, books, uniforms etc.
May also stated that KET set up the scholarship program because her father Gordon Graham (one of the founding members of KET) was a huge believer in the importance of education.
She thanked students for the letters they write each year to sponsors of their scholarships, saying that they appreciate it greatly.
KET scholar 2015, Tomugha Awomi gave a scholar’s speech where he, on behalf of the beneficiary scholars, expressed gratitude to their benefactors who, he said, had become a constant source of support for them.
He thanked the late Gordon Graham, founder of KET adding that his legacy would always be remembered. He also thanked Elizabeth Graham who, he said, has been his sponsor for the past years.
Addressing his fellow scholars, Tomugha said it was not because of their own merit that they were receiving the scholarships but because of the toil of their forefathers.
Veteran Saishe Sema, in his short speech thanked the KET/KES for looking after the students, adding that even though the government forgot them many times, the guests who fought for them were there for them today.
Some of the donors who were present there personally handed the scholarships to the students.
The program started with invocation of blessings by Kohima Educational Society (KES) former chairman, Pheluopfhelie Kesiezie, followed by a welcome address delivered by KES chairman, Dr. P. Ngully.
War Veteran Richard Day also spoke at the program and shared from his experiences.
