39th Western Sumi Hoho general conference

 DIMAPUR: Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) 39th general conference was held at Chekiye village ground with Retd. Justice H. K. Sema as the special guest on May 11. 

A press release from WSH president, Zheshit Swu stated that, Sema dwelt on the heroic and courageous personality of the Sumis in the past. He recalled how Sumis were once foeared, respected and revered , however he regretted that due to narrow divisions, clanism and fragmentation Sumis have lost those traits. 

He highlighted on the provisions of BEFR Act of 1873, Article 371 about their safeguard and limitations. On the Naga political issue, Sema said that every faction and group must first unite only then solution would be possible. 

While thanking the august gathering, WSH president Zheshito Swu stressed that in order to bring unity and progress among the Western Sumis, he had tirelessly given his best and full cooperation to Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC) during his term. 

Sumi Hoho joint secretary Vikishe delivered greetings and spoke on the WSH theme “Peace and unity”, whereby he said that it was easier said than done. He said that a leader was very essential for a community without which the people will be helpless. 

Vikato K Achumi, general secretary of WSH read out the report and a souvenir was also released. A prayer for the outgoing and the new team was done by Rev. Dr. Hevukhu Achumi, executive secretary, WSBAK. Various organisations like Western Sumi Kukami Hoho, Western Sumi Youth Front,Western Sumi Students Union, Western Sumi Totimi Hoho Sumi representatives from CNTC and Sumi Kukuputsa attended the conference. 

Former chief minister KL Chishi, Azheto Zhimomi MLA, Hewoto Awomi, former minister, Kikheto Yeptho comissioner & secretary also attended the conference.

The newly elected team for the 2019-2022 session is led by Dr. Kakheto Zhimomi as the president, Shikaho Zhimomi as the vice-president and Kisheto Chishi as the general secretary. The programme was chaired by P. Nihokhe Awomi, vice president WSH with James G Zhimomi, joint secretary WSH as the programme recorder. Sarafina H Yepthomi presented a special number. The invocation was pronounced by Kihoto Rotokha, pastor, Chekiye Baptist Church and benediction offered by Tovishe Achumi, Thahekhu Baptist.
