3rd Hornbill Angling Festival held

The 3rd Hornbill Angling Festival was held at Etlingera Patch, Doyang in Wokha on December 4. The competition was organised by Anglers Association Nagaland (AAN) in collaboration with the Department of Tourism and Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Govt of Nagaland and was hosted by District Anglers Wokha Nagaland (DAWN).

Altogether 100 anglers participated in the competition from different parts of the state including a participant from UK.

Moyithung Erui emerged as the overall champion and walked away with a cash prize of Rs.50,000. Tsungro Kithan and Amos came second and third and received Rs.30,000 and Rs.20,000 respectively. 

The most valuable AAN members of the year were awarded to Aboi Laishram and Khylamo Lotha.  Nyanthung (9 years) from Wokha town was the youngest participant of the competition. 

The prize distribution ceremony was attended by a team led by Neitho, Deputy Director, Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources and Wokha district administration.

To mark the occasion, the organiser along with the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources also released 300 Chocolate Masheers to create awareness and spread the message of conservation of indigenous fish species.
