4 kg of Heroin seized from oil tanker in Manipur

Manipur police recovered four kgs of heroin from an oil tanker (MN-01 8221) originating from Imphal and heading toward Dimapur on NH-2 on Monday night.

The driver identified as Kumar Subedi (39) from Kanglatongbi town and his two helpers have been arrested, an official source said on Tuesday. The contraband Heroin were sealed in four packets of one-kg each and were found  during a thorough checking to the vehicle. The source said that the contraband item was recovered when the oil tanker moving towards Dimapur along with other IOCL tankers along with security escorts provided by CRPF around 11 pm on Monday. A check was conducted on oil tankers proceeding towards Dimapur based on specific information received by the police at Mao gate in Senapati district.

The police picked out the oil tanker after the driver and his two helpers disclosed that they joined the convoy midway from Kanglatongbi of Kangpokpi district.

Further verification from the police revealed that the driver possessed a fake token (no. 67). Oil tankers plying on NH-2 with security escorts were provided token by the Indian Oil Corporation and the tanker in question was not found in the list of the oil tankers that were given tokens.
