4-lane road work hit by monsoon

Staff Reporter DIMAPUR, JUL 7 (NPN) | Publish Date: 7/8/2018 12:27:02 AM IST
It appears that contractors of the ongoing four-lane  road work have taken monsoon leave as the work progress was tardy even as the road condition worsens with mudslides and mud-covered potholes. Driving along the NH-29 is a hazardous experience both for the driver, passengers and the vehicle. The road project covering a length of 42.48 km was approved at a cumulative cost of Rs 1,199.11 crore.
As reported earlier, the 74 Kms distance from Dimapur to Kohima that used to take around 2½ hours presently takes anywhere between 3 to 4 hours if there is no traffic, but 5 hours onwards depending on various factors.
Expansion of the Guwahati-Shillong (GS) road was completed before the deadline in 2016 mainly since the contractor(s) worked almost non-stop from day to past midnight.
