The 4th edition of North East Youth Fest (NEYF), Chandigarh was concluded on November 10 in a colourful late evening function at Chandigargh.

A press release from organizing committee member NEYF 2018, Chollen Chang stated that chief guest, Niharika Batt, and guest of honour OSD to Union Minister for Health, Dr. Virendr Garg, congratulated the organizers and the participants for conceptualizing and executing the very innovative Fest which centred around the theme “North East Youth Towards Nation Building”.  Niharika Batt called upon the youth present to channelize the immense qualities and energies of northeast youth for positive activities while Virendar Garg offered full assistance for northeast youth in cases of medical emergencies and treatments.

The two-days’ educational and socio-cultural extravaganza had a mammoth gathering of about 1500 North East youth from the eight north eastern states and over a dozen motivational speakers taking sessions on themes such as peace, nation building, personal responsibility, addictive habits, life in the metros, social media responsibility and a group discussion on “What makes northeast youth land in trouble”? The young participants on their turn presented dances and songs and a cultural costume show, all depicting the rich cultural heritage of the region.  One representative youth from every state showcased the respective state in a brief slide show enabling the gathering to know more about northeast and its people.

The event was an initiative of Don Bosco Youth Centre, Itanagar and Don Bosco Navjeevan Society, Chandigarh which is organized annually with three core concepts in focus that the fest be educative, entertaining and morally good. It was also to showcase and promote northeast youth and their talents and to bring them to the national mainstream in participating in building up of a peaceful and progressive India. A new organizing committee under the leadership of Caryn from Mizoram was formed for NEYF 2019 and tentative dates were proposed.
