After an NSCN(I-M) cadre escaped from police lock up on Wednesday, five police personnel have been suspended in Manipur, reports The Northeast Today.

The cadre identified as PT Thailik Panmei (23) of Taoshang village, Noney district was arrested by Assam Rifles jawans during an operation in the Kekru Naga area of Tamenglong district on Sunday. A manhunt is underway to nab the cadre. He was lodged in the lockup of Imphal PS on Tuesday after a court remanded him in police custody.

The suspended policemen include three sub-inspectors, an assistant sub-inspector and a head constable. Sources said the OC of Imphal police station has been transferred and the services of three Village Defence Force (VDF) personnel have also been discontinued. The state government has constituted a panel headed by the DGP to probe into the incident and declared Panmei as a wanted man. A reward of Rs 1 lakh has been announced to give information that can lead to his arrest. On Wednesday evening, Manipur DGP LM Khaute and a team of forensic experts inspected the lockup located in the ground floor of the three-storied building that also houses the office of Imphal West district’s SP.
