Directorate of School Education, Kohima organized state level students science exhibition on the topic “science and technology for sustainable development” held at Rüzhükhrie Government Higher Secondary School Kohima with director of School Education, Wonthungo Tsopoe as special guest on Thursday.

Special guest in his address said that the weak performance of science and mathematics in the state was one of the biggest challenges for Education department. He lamented that many schools in the state are result oriented especially in matric result and made real learning the secondary. Director said students have potential to do better, however they needed motivation. He challenged the teachers especially primary sections to motivate and inculcate students to make science and maths interesting to learn. 

Additional director Samagra, Limawabang Aier in his brief address said without science and technology no society would develop and advised the participating students to learn and contribute something beneficial for the society through this programme.

Deputy director DSE Limadangit Jamir who chaired the programme in his keynote address said the capacity of the earth for human and other life form is significantly diminishing, global warming and poverty was at rise and there was limited amount of resources on earth which are exploited everyday. He said learning to live sustainably and caring for the earth was need of the hour.

Altogether six students were selected who were the winners during the state level science exhibition. In individual category, 1st prize was bagged by Lemei H Lakpan from Model Higher Secondary School Kohima and 2nd prize bagged by Mechi Imchen from Queen Mary HSS, Mokokchung.

In group category, 1st prize was bagged by Subeno Murry and Chumreno Erui of

Don Bosco HSS, Wokha and 2nd prize  bagged by Lansingliu Gonmei and Kwazeu Meru from All Saints HSS, Peren. All the winners will represent the state during the Eastern India Science Fair, Kolkata to be held from January 14 to 18, 2020.

Students from 9 nine districts participated at the science exhibition except Longleng and Tuensang districts.
