6 test positive for COVID-19 in Mon

Six Chennai returnees lodged at an institutional quarantine centre, Mon town have been tested positive for COVID-19.

According to an official bulletin, initially seven samples tested positive in the TrueNat test. However, their samples were sent for RT-PCR test at ICMR (Dibrugarh) for confirmation on June 11, 2020. Six out of seven samples returned positive for COVID-19 on June 12, 2020. 

It stated that all the seven were men in the age group of 18-32. They were found negative in the test conducted in Dimapur.

After completing 10-day institutional quarantine centre in Dimapur, they reached Mon on June 2, 2020 and were housed at an Institutional Quarantine Centre in Mon. In view of the detection COVID-19 cases, the entire Wangkhao Government College Campus and the adjoining Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Campus, where the quarantine centres are located, have been declared as a containment zone. COVID Care Centre has been activated for the treatment of asymptotic positive patients.

The deputy commissioner (DC) Mon, Thavaseelan K, has requested the citizens of Mon district not to panic. He assured that the district task force and the empowered group of Mon district were taking all possible measures to ensure containment of cases and speedy recovery of positive cases. Public have also been requested to continue maintaining social distancing, practice hand hygiene and wear masks at all times.
