7-day ultimatum served on PGCIL to rectify power lines

Green-SONS has set a seven-day ultimatum for Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) to rectify the power grid line from Doyang Hydro Electric Project to Dimapur. In a letter to general manager PGCIL, Green-SONS chairman Jess Murry also warned filing a PIL, if the corporation fails to act within the deadline.

The letter recalled that two elephants were electrocuted on October 24, 2018 at Sanis by the power lines, following which the Forest department urged PGCIL to rectify the power lines by increasing their heights. Yet, it pointed out that no action was taken, which led to a wildfire caused by electric sparks from the power line at Sanis in February this year. Besides, two more elephants were electrocuted at the same spot on April 7.
