8 students selected to Kala Utsav

Eight students from different schools have been selected to represent Nagaland in the national “Kala Utsav” be held from January 2-6, 2020 in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. 

The selected students were boys- Alem Meren of RCC JMGHS Changtongya Mokokchung (vocal), Puso Swuro of TMGHSS Kohima (instrumental), Pode Kezo of GHS Pholami Phek (dance) and Kashito Jakhalu of GHSS Zunheboto (painting) and girls- Küvelü Sakhamo of GHSS Pholami Phek (vocal), Leyanla of GHSS Pungro (instrumental), Nitoli Aye of GHSS Zunheboto (dance) and Sentikumla Jamir of GHSS Tuli (painting). 

The students were selected at the 5th State level Kala Utsav competition and cultural day organized by Samagra Shiksha Nagaland at Dr. Neilhouzhü Kire GHSS Seikhazou, Kohima on Tuesday.

Kala Utsav is the initiative of the Union Human Resource Development Ministry to present arts in education by nurturing and showcasing the artistic talent of school students at the secondary stage in the country.

Director, Information and Public Relations, Limawati Ao, who graced the event as guest of honour, stated that dance, music and painting were also important activity like any other subject in the process of learning. He appealed to the school authorities and parents to give equal importance and make it a yearlong integral part of the learning to mould the students. He said that Kala Utsav will not only spread awareness among students, but also create awareness of India’s cultural heritage and its vibrant diversity amongst other stakeholders. 

State programme coordinator Kala Utsav, Timothy Thong gave a brief introduction of Kala Utsav. Assistant Mission Director, Samagra Siksha Nagaland, Chungngam Konyak delivered the vote of thanks. Assistant Mission director, SS Nagaland, Liyalo Apon chaired the programme.
