An evening of acoustic guitar instrumentals attracted music enthusiasts from Kohima amid the pre-monsoon storm on Friday as Imli Imchen belted out instrumental pieces from his music album. The show was a pre-album release promotional tour held at Hive Caf, Kohima.
Imli Imchen is a recently graduated musician based in Mumbai. He finished recording his first original instrumental album at Mumbai which will be launched in June. Imli Imchen’s music album is fusion based, influenced by jazz. He performed about six pieces from the album on Friday evening. Besides Imchen, guest performers for the evening included Meron Yanthan and Azha Usou.
Imchen, who is on a promotional tour to Nagaland, said he had been receiving good response from the crowd in Nagaland. He said that instrumental is a big challenge in Nagaland but also assured that his music is “flexible”. He asserted that if his music can communicate with people, it will make a difference.
He has already held four shows in Mokokchung, with five more shows in Kohima and one in Dimapur as part of the pre-album launch tour.
Some of his inspirations, he said, in Nagalanad are musicians like Sentilong and Tali Moa. Imli had performed in events like Mumbai fest, Gateway of India, Hard Rock Cafes and won competitions in national and college levels.
Imli Imchen’s album was recorded and sponsored by nagabit.com as its first venture to promote Naga artistes. nagabit.com is a networking site launched in August 2010 and manned by a group of Nagas with the aim to provide platform to Nagas to venture out to different segments.
