Naga designers shine at NEIFT design ceremony

North East India, comprising of the eight exotic states has a rich, unique history and tradition of the tribal and non tribal textiles which forms an integral part of its socio-cultural lifestyle.
One of the pioneer and leading fashion institutes of the region North East Institute of Fashion Technology (NEIFT) based in Guwahati - the gateway of the north east promotes the traditional values of the region and encourages its students to innovate tradition with diversification with a belief of creating new avenues and markets for the north eastern products.
Recently, Delhi’s Fashion Connoisseurs witnessed a mega Fashion Show by the young students of NEIFT at the exotic sets created at Dilli Haat, INA.
CEO, NEIFT, Vikram Rai Medhi welcomed the gathering and enlightened the audience about the fashion industry of the North East region.
Chief guest for the evening Rita Menon, Chairman, India Trade Promotion Organisation, Ministry of Commerce, Govt of India, inaugurated the show with an opening speech.
Speaking on the occasion the chief guest said, “Events such as tonight’s NEIFT Design Ceremony brings the northeast closer to us and I am very happy to see such young talented designers coming from such diverse socio-cultural societies”.
The fashion show witnessed a strong line up of national and international models from Brazil, Czech republic, Russia etc. to showcase the talents and immense potentials of the final year students coming from the states like Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland etc.
The young students had diverse themes like etnic splash,violence, passionate red, peace, gothic, etc. the gathered audience were left spell bound by the exotic collection which was displayed on the ramp.
The young students from Nagaland namely Hajeli (Aji) Rengma, Atu Jamir (Medemtula), Naro Jamir, Unsana etc., were was well appreciated for their innovative designs and use of Naga traditional textiles in their ensemble.
The focus of the event was to bring the fashion and culture of Northeast India closer to the people of the capital and create new opportunities of growth for the young designers of tomorrow.
