Shobna Gulati, who has starred in the BBC show ‘Coronation street,’ has revealed that a series of racist abuse on Twitter forced her to quit the micro-blogging site.

Trolls mutilated photos of the actress and posted them online with sick comments, the Sun reported.
“You’re not British, you’re foreign,” a user tweeted. “You have got to be the ugliest f***** I’ve ever seen,” another user posted.

One of the sinister posts read that “I’ll always be here to bother you.”
Gulati, who plays ‘Sunita’ in the ITV1 soap, admitted being devastated due to such tweets. “Being racially abused on Twitter really shook me up. It felt like going back in time to the 1970s,” she said.

“It put me in mind of a psycho - like a horror movie. I just decided enough was enough.
“I tried to ignore it but it started to affect my confidence,” the actress said.

“Violent, vitriolic hatred gives people their moment in the spotlight. It beggars belief.”
Gulati, who was born in Oldham to Indian parents spoke about her experience after ‘Towie’ star Lauren Goodger was targeted by similar nasty internet trolls over her weight.

Last week, it was revealed that a Twitter user called 25-year-old Goodger fat.
“A fat kebab-legged ogre,” the tweet read.

Talking about the incident Gulati admitted that she knew how exactly it felt.
“I know how she feels. It’s just bullying,” she added.
