Former Chief Minister of Maharashtra and father of actor Riteish Deshmukh, Vilasrao Deshmukh is critically ill and he is admitted to the Global Hospital in Chennai. He is currently on life support system. He is critically ill and suffering from serious liver ailment and multiple organ failure.

Son Riteish has proposed to donate a part of his liver to save the life of his ail father. After Riteish showed his eagerness to donate his liver, doctors are examining whether tissues of the father and son match or not.

According to transplant rules, the doctors can conduct liver transplantation only after an authorized committee headed by the Tamil Nadu director of medical education gives permission.

A doctor from Global Hospital said, “We have not ruled out a cadaver transplant either. We will put him on the wait-list. But that is only after he stabilises.”

67-year-old, Vilasrao’s condition deteriorated yesterday and he was immediately rushed to Chennai hospital by a special flight from Mumbai.

Throwing light on his present health condition, doctors said, “Deshmukh is on life support. His condition is critical as he is suffering from a serious liver ailment and multiple organ failure.”

At first, a doctor in Mumbai was quoted as saying, “At Breach Candy (Mumbai hospital where Deshmukh was earlier admitted), he was on dialysis for three days. There was no improvement in his condition and ultimately he was put on life support system.”

“Our information is that Deshmukh had gone abroad for check-up on two to three occasions and there had been a marked improvement in his condition,” added the doctor.
