State minister for power, Doshehe Y. Sema Tuesday night attended a meeting of National Power Committee (NPC) comprising of five regional committees and discussed the power situation in the country following the recent grid failure and measures to face power crisis in future.

Talking to Nagaland Post over phone from Delhi, Doshehe, who is also the chairman of NPC said that since July 31, northern part of India and eastern region were badly affected due to massive grid failures.

Doshehe said the meeting discussed steps to be taken in times of such failure and on imparting training to power officials/employees for skill upgradation and capacity building.

He has also requested the Government of India to establish State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDCs) for operation, planning, monitoring and control of the power system in the region where such centres were yet to be established.

He said that Tripura, Meghalaya and Assam have their own SLDCs but the remaining five states do not have such centres.

Doshehe stated that Punjab, UP and Haryana have already overdrawn power owing to collapse of the power grid in northern states, affecting the national grid impacting the Northeast.

He said while in many states, consumers could make their own arrangement to meet the power crisis using back-ups (invertors), most people in Nagaland had to depend on regular supply. He also added that for skill upgradation and capacity building on power, he would be leading a team of ministers to Australia next month.

i am really grateful for the power minister for restoring my faith in him. Howerver why in no one asking him "why do a team of minister need to go to Australia next month for skill up gradation and capacity building on power?" i mean when was a last time or for that matter the first time when a team of minister installed a rusty old transformer? let alone changed a light bulb? would not middle level technical employee get more benefits for skill up gradation? what about the expense involved? who is going to pay for the shopping spree and day or so on the bondi beach? what can the Australia teach us? apart form honest, integrity . etc? surly it would be far far better for the Australia to come to nagaland and see how we do things and give us skill graduation?
