Organizations appeal for release of hostages including 2 Nagas

Representatives of 12 civil society and students’ organizations have appealed to KPLT to release the 18 labourers abducted from the Lungnit hydro project on June 10.

A joint statement signed by Khorsing Teron, president of Karbi literary body Karbi Lammet Amei, Pankaj Teron, convener, Karbi Human Right Watch, Leon Engleng, general secretary Karbi Students Association, Rani Rongpharpi president Karbi Nimso Chingthur Asong, Laichan Engleng president KSA including other six organizations also condemned the “act of human rights violation”, stating that history would never forgive the organization involved if anything happened to the hostages.

The organizations expressed hope that KPLT would respond positively to the “cries of their wives, children and organizations”.

It may be mentioned on June 9 and 12 Nagaland Post published the news of the abduction. M. G. Nag, the managing director of P. Das and company on June 12 revealed the total number of persons abducted from the project site. 

The labourers were employed by Guwahati based P.Das and Company for hydro electric project on the foot hills of Singhason range around 28 kilometers from Diphu.

The hydro electric project of was launched in 2006, at the estimated cost of Rs. 52 crore. The Lungnit hydro project was supposed to be completed within 42 month from the commencement of the work but due to several factors actual work began only in 2009.

NPMHR, APO appeal KPLT
Meanwhile, Naga People’s Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) and Angami People’s Organisation(APO) Tuesday appealed to Karbi People Liberation Tigers (KPLT) for the save release of Kelesel Kikhi and  Khroviho Kikhi who were abducted on June 10 along with others from Lungnit hydro project site.
 
In a statement, NPMHR co-convenor Kenneth and APO general secretary Vipopal said that urged KPLT to adhere to the “human values”.

The organizations also said that the “emotional trauma” that the kit and kin of the abducted was going through was genuine and therefore requested KPLT to release the “abductees” at the earliest.

NPMHR and APO also expressed gratitude to Karbi civil society organizations for the help and assistance rendered so far while soliciting to continue building bridges to bring the issue to a logical conclusion.

They also requested the company and its proprietor P. Das to be”’mature” in the company’s approach so as to resolve the hostage issue at the earliest.
