While expressing dismay over the helplessness of their counterpart in Karbi Anglong, Naga civil society organizations Tuesday urged them to mount pressure on the abductors for releasing the two abducted Nagas unharmed and without further delay.
This followed the meeting Tuesday between hundreds of villagers led by Naga civil society organizations and their counterparts at Diphu for securing the release of two Nagas who were taken hostage by Karbi People’s Liberation Tigers (KPLT) on June 10 from the Lungnit hydro electric project along with 16 others for ransom.
It may be mentioned that the two Nagas Kelesel Kikhi and Khroviho Kikhi undertook sub-contacts under P. Das and company, the main contractor of the project when they were taken hostage along with a group labourers ransom.
The representative of Naga civil society organizations who came to Diphu, Karbi Anglong district, Assam included Viswema Village Council, Viswema Youth Society, Angami Women Society, Angami Youth Association, KIRHA, Naga Students’ Federation, Naga Hoho and Naga Mothers Association. Hundreds of villagers also accompanied the representatives of the Naga civil society organizations at the meeting held at Karbi Students’ Association (Englengpo Faction) office Rongkhelang, Diphu.
Representatives of Karbi Human Right Watch, three factions of Karbi Students’ Association and All India Students Association discussed about the dynamic of the situation and tried to thrash out means and ways to persuade the abductors to release the hostages, particularly the two Nagas.
