FRIENDS advisor Kakchingtabam Bihari Friday started an indefinite ‘fast unto death’ demanding enforcement of Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in Manipur even as various civil organizations based in both hills and valley joined the FRIENDS in pressing the government for the enforcement of the system in the state.

Bihari began his fast at Imphal’s Kwakeithel as a part of the democratic agitations launched by the Joint Committee of civil organizations formed under the aegis of Federation of Regional Indigenous Societies (FRIENDS) regarding the implementation of ILP in the state.

The advisor is pressing the state government for passing a resolution regarding the implementation of ILP system in the state by the House of the Manipur Assembly in the ongoing monsoon session.

“I will continue by fasting stir until the state government implement the system (Inner Line Permit system),” said Bihari, adding that he took the decision to undergo fast unto death to save the indigenous people from domination by migrant influx.

He further demanded adoption of a resolution by the Assembly regarding the enforcement of ILP in the state in its ongoing session. The system is being enforced in Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, he added.
