Joint Action Committee (JAC) against abduction of Irungbam Irabanta (a local contractor), who went missing since May 27, Monday set a five-day deadline demanding the arrest of the three persons involved in the reported abduction.

JAC in a memorandum submitted to Manipur chief minister Monday, “demanded the arrest of Winner Tangkhul, Francis Tangkhul (NSCN (I-M) CAO regional office, Ukhrul) and Leisi”. Even though NSCN (I-M) has denied their involvement, family members of Irabanta and JAC are still alleging the latter’s involvement.

Representatives of the JAC submitted the memorandum after a protest rally that was carried out from Palace Compound to chief minister’s bungalow.

Condemning the “irresponsible attitude” of the state government to trace out the whereabouts of Irabanta, JAC in the memorandum further warned that the committee would initiate “intensified forms of agitation” if their demand was not met.According to JAC, Irabanta who supplies stones and sand for construction of Maphou Dam had gone to Ukhrul district with one MK Winner on May 27 and since then went missing.
