The hullabaloo surrounding the alleged fund embezzlement in Ukhrul SSA is likely to get uglier with the Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) and Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL) pointing its finger to the probable involvement of Deputy Commissioner R. Sudhan and demanding immediate action from higher authorities.

In an address to the mediapersons on Friday, the TKS and TMNL have jointly demanded action against the Ukhrul DC and demanded a thorough inquiry in the misappropriation of SSA fund from higher authorities.

The bodies alleged that not only ZEO were involved in the scam, but the defiance of DC to shield the SSA DPM Rinshang Shaiza is highly questionable. “Why is Mr. Sudhan trying to protect the SSA DPM? Why no inquiry has been initiated in this matter?” it questioned.

“The matter has been apprised to state Education Minister and we are patiently waiting for positive response. In case of failure to initiate action against the corrupt official(s), more intense civilagitation will follow suit,” the TKS warned.

On Saturday, it informed that the TKS would seek an audience with Education Minister and a memorandum demanding action against the Ukhrul DC would be submitted.

TKS president Yangmi Khapai has informed that a memo has been submitted to DC to initiate necessary action against the DPM, but failed to receive any response so far.

On Friday afternoon, the bodies have placed on record that fund misuse in Ukhrul SSA is to the tune of Rs. 99.7 lakh and further alleged that it could go on beyond this amount.

The TKS, based on their independent inquiry and findings, has charged that the SSA money has been fraudulently drawn and has not been utilized accordingly. In regard to the fund allotted for Early Child Care Education (ECCE), Girl’s Education, SC/ST, Community Training, etc, the body maintained that not a single programme has been implemented while the money meant for it has been utilized.

The ongoing campaign of TKS is being endorsed by all Tangkhul frontal organizations comprising, TNL, TSL, TNWL and TMNL.

The TKS, after the first memo submitted to DC on SSA scam on Thursday, has put in another representation today. Earlier, the DC has been apprised verbally by TKS president on July 25 last.
