Drawing the attention of the authority responsible for the lack of development in Tamenglong district, Zeliangrong Youth Front (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) and Zeliangrong Youth Front Tamenglong zone have urged the government of Manipur to institute a committee to monitor the undergoing developmental activities in the district so as to complete the work at the earliest and to avoid wastage of development fund “without accountability”.
In a press communiqué by joint secretary ZYF (AMN), David Kamei said that during an independent spot verification the combined team of ZYF (AMN) and ZYF Tamenglong zone on August 1 has found out that developmental works taken up in the district were “only to gain political gimmick or for exhaustion of public money”.
The released stated that the team wondered how the inauguration of District Secretariat was done in hasty manner without finishing the work. The District Secretariat was inaugurated by Union Minister, P. Chidambaram on November 3, 2011.
The team also found out that the makeshift shed/camp erected for the labourers shelters at the construction works of Jaharlal Navodya Vidyalaya at Duigailong was overgrown with grass and bushy, which showed a “clear sign of abandoning the worksite for quite long time”, the release added.
The team further inspected the construction works of 100 bedded District Hospital initiated at the cost of crores of rupees, but had found that there was no progress at all.
The release stated that team was disheartened to the government for not serious enough even to take up the most important construction works of hospital.
Further, the team urged the responsible authority to take necessary and strong instructions against the agencies to complete the works at the earliest.
