Whereabouts of a truck driver kidnapped by suspected militants on August 8 last remains unknown till date, a police source said Friday.

The driver of truck bearing registration no. AS01DC-6071 identified as Md Babu of Hayel Labuk was held hostage by the militants after he was stopped forcibly on the way to Imphal from Dimapur on NH-2 at a place between Bimparou and Koubru Leikha, the source added.

The vehicle belongs to one Satish of Angkit Transports and transporting spare parts of vehicles.
Police suspect hands of a Kuki based militant group behind the kidnapping in connection with monetary demand from the owner of the truck.

A case has been registered at Kangpokpi police of Senapati district and investigation was on to trace the missing driver and to identify the kidnappers, the source added.
