Villagers nab two extortionists

Villager of Andro in Imphal East district Friday caught two youth identified as activists of United Revolutionary Front (URF), an underground group formed by breakaway group of People’s United Liberation Front (PULF) and handed over to police after beating them “black and blue”.

Villagers caught them from the house of one Heikrujam Pholachandra, chawkidar of Andro Junior High School, Andro where they were trying to extort money from the chawkidar by threatening his family members today around 4pm.

Chungkham Kunda (27) son of Ch Kirti Singh of Andro Khuman Nungyungbi and Chungkham Bishewor Singh (29) son of Ch Bira Singh of Andro Bazar were beaten up by the villagers who overpowered them even as they boasted of carrying arms and claimed to be activists of URF.

No arm was found when the villagers conducted search after they were overpowered. Later, the villagers handed over them to a team of Imphal East police commandos attached with Andro police station who rushed to the village on receiving information.
