Proposed KSO’s 48-hour Manipur bandh suspended

The proposed 48-hour Manipur bandh called by Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO) due to commenced tomorrow (September 19) at 6 am was Tuesday suspended, after an agreement was reached with the government.

KSO, on Saturday last, has threatened to impose a 48-hour statewide bandh in Manipur, alleging that authority of Manipur government has failed to address the grievances g faced by intending candidates of the Teachers’ Eligibility Test while availing application form.

Following the agreement arrived at the meeting under the chair of the state education minister, Moirangthem Okendro at his office chamber, the decision to suspend the proposed bandh was taken, KSO general secretary Sasang Vaiphei said.

At the meeting certain demands raised by the KSO, including making available TET application form in all district headquarters of the state and opening of TET exam centres in all districts were discussed.

MLAs Vungzagin Valte, MK Preshow, Nemcha Kipgen, Z Kikhonbou Newmai, Victor Nonglur, Dr Alexander Pao, who were also members of the Manipur State Education Consultative Committee, principal secretary Suresh Babu, director of Education (school) also attended, besides representatives of the KSO and DESAM (Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur).

The meeting also deliberated on the demands raised by the KSO and other student organizations regarding TET exam to be conducted by the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM) and a consensus on opening form outlet centres in all district headquarters through zonal education offices (ZEOs) among others, an official source said.

The demand for extension of the last date of submission of TET form has been duly considered during the meeting and government has agreed to the demand of the student bodies, the source added.

To defer the date of exam (which was fixed on coming November 28) was also accepted by the government considering the SSC examination falling on the same date. Another date for the exam will be fixed soon.

The proposal for opening of TET examination centres was considered at length and the education minister gave assurance that the matter would be seriously looked into and all steps will be taken to hold the TET examinations in all district headquarters.
