Manipur University holds convocation amid students’ protest

Students of Manipur University, Imphal, Monday disrupted the 13th convocation ceremony of the university, attended by Union minister for Development of North East Region Paban Singh Ghatowar among others.

The students stormed toward the centenary hall of the institution, the venue of the convocation ceremony, and starting shouting slogans against alleged corrupt practices in the administration of the university by demanding revival of Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU). 

Police personnel detailed in and around the convocation venue prevented the students from entering into the centenary hall.

The students said they were protesting against the corrupt practices “manipulation” by the administration of the results of M (Com).

In the result declared on September 7 last, one SH Timothy was declared as topper of the exam. However, in a revised results declared on September 11 the topper student was placed in the second position.
