Resenting over the ill treatment “disseminated” against the indigenous Kuki tribes by Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), the Kuki ultra organization, Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) alleged that the KAAC was now planning to evict the entire population from their ancestral land by converting the area into tiger reserve.
In a memorandum addressed to the union home minister, KRA general secretary Janglun Tuboi and chairman L. Hangsing alleged that the KRA came out of the jungle for peace with the government having faith on the dynamic leadership of Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi that, he will solve the longstanding problem of the Kukis living in Karbi Anglong through peace talk.
However, the two leaders said as per their observation the “government was playing game with us” and added that it doubted about the policies of the government towards the indigenous Kuki people.
Alleging that the government and the Council were hatching a ploy to drive away the Kuki population who were residing in “project area” since time immemorial, the two leaders said that “KAAC has no authority to carry forward any project without our permission”, and alleged that the area has not been administered by council since its birth.
Highlighting about the primitive living condition of the Kuki tribes in the hills, the two leaders alleged that, not a single development scheme has been initiated by KAAC.
Taking all this into account, the KRA leaders have demand intervention from the ministry to “stop all evil design and ill policies against the Kuki for peace and harmony, who have been suffering for past several decades, under the administrative setup of the KAAC”.
