Tangkhul choir wins 1st NE choral singing competition

Tangkhul Choir in Delhi won the 1st North East Choral Singing Competition held at Thyagaraj Stadium, New Delhi on November 11, 2012 with the theme “Togetherness” organised by the Tangkhul Christian Charitable Trust (TCCT).
Altogether 11 choirs from different community-based christian church/fellowship from North East India based in and around Delhi took part in the singing competition.

A total of 551 choir members took part in the competition, with the Hmar Christian Fellowship (HCFD) Choir participating with the largest numbers.

Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit grace the function as chief guest and Manipur MP Dr. Thokchom Meinya as the Guest of Honour in place of Rishang Keishing (MP, Rajya Sabha) who could not make it to the function due to other committments. Besides other dignitaries and guests, Rev. Arun Andrews from the Ravi Zacharias International Ministry gave a short talks on the “purpose of life”.

Artistes Aching Shaiza, Fiona Pachuau and Roselyn Hmar also entralled the 4000 strong audience who came to witness the choral competition with their melodious voices.

As the competition begins, the choirs with their beautifully woven traditional attires took to the stage singing the selected competition song - hymn “God is Love” with the three judge panel judging each of their performances.

When the result was announced, the Tangkhul Church Delhi (TCD) Choir was declared winner of the 1st North East Choral Singing Competition.

The winner takes home Rs. 3 lakhs as cash prize with a running trophy. The HCFD Choir took second place with Rs. 2 lakhs as cash prize and the third place was taken by the Rongmei Christian Fellowship Delhi (RCFD) with a cash prize of Rs. one lakh.
