ULFA’s anti-talk Paresh Baruah faction has called a 12-hour Upper Assam bandh Monday to protest the killing of three persons in an encounter in Majuli Island.
Even though security in upper Assam have been tightened following the bandh call, sources along the Nagaland-Assam border Sunday advised that it would be better if Nagas avoided going to Assam’s three districts-- Jorhat, Golaghat and Sivasagar.
Cautioning Nagas in border areas, a source in border Mokokchung district said that people from Nagaland side should take care while venturing into the three Assam districts during the ULFA bandh.
The bandh has been called in protest against the killing of three persons which the anti talk faction of the ULFA claimed were not its cadres.
An e-mail sent by ULFA publicity wing member Aranya Asom to media in Assam claimed that none of its armed cadres were present in Majuli on Thursday when the encounter had took place.
