Khatkhati Police under Dihpu Police district, have yet to make any breakthrough in the May 16  night  triple murder  of a Naga family who were hacked to death and the two women suspected to have been raped.

Additional Superintendent of Police Bolin Deuri, who won acclaim for arresting more than 50 dreaded rhino poachers including a Myanmarese national in Dimapur recently, has been given responsibility of the case.

Talking to this Correspondent Sunday, Bolin expressed optimism of being able to crack the case. He said sleuths from Diphu have been able to piece together the inputs from material evidence and from public.

He said that police were steadily getting closer to getting a breakthrough and that those involved would be caught soon.

Another Assam Police source in Diphu however alleged that public from Bor Lengri, who knew late Rhonsuo, were not extending the desired cooperation.

The source said the uncooperative attitude was causing delay in identification and subsequent arrest of the offender(s).

Another police source speaking on condition of anonymity, told this Correspondent that the probable motive for the horrific crime could be money. He disclosed that the male victim, Rhonsuo used to lend money which invited undesirable elements and that earned him an uncomplimentary reputation.

It may be recalled that unidentified persons hacked to death late Rhonsuo Odyuo(30), whose body was found early on Friday morning by the roadside.

The bodies of late Rhonsuo’s wife -Alice Sumi(21) and his sister Shanchobeni Patton-were found half naked from their waists down, suggesting rapes.

The house was bolted from outside by the killers and neighbours had to break open the lock to enter the house.

The car(Maroon color Maruti Alo-registration NL 07-5308) belonging to late Rhonsuo, was found with a maroon colored briefcase in the front seat and some file and folders and presumably, a lady’s handbag(rexin) in the back seat.

The car and the items inside it, have been seized by Khatkhati Police. Police also seized the CCTV which was installed inside the sitting room to study the footage.

Meanwhile, a local newspaper published in Diphu, quoting Nagaland Janata Dal(United) president Mhonjan Lotha stated, that the party has demanded a joint probe by both Diphu and Dimapur police.

The JD(U)president had said he suspected the involvement of some people within the community in Bor Lengri, which is dominated by Naga tribes.

Perhaps corroborating this point, ASP Deuri talking to his Correspondent, hinted that  some group were trying to shield the killers but vowed, he will not stray away from pursing the case to its logical conclusion.

Meanwhile, the spate of condemnations over the gruesome killings continue to pour in from various quarters.

NMA condemns
Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) has expressed shock over the gruesome triple murder of Late Rhonsuo Odyuo, his wife Alice and his sister Shanchobeni Patton , wife of Libemo Patton, GB of Doyang village at Bor-Lengri.

While expressing its strong resentment at the heinous crimes, NMA implored law enforcing agencies of Assam and Nagaland to take stringent action against the perpetrators of such inhuman crimes.

NMA has appealed to the public to give their co-operation with the investigating authority in apprehending the culprits to award befitting punishment at the earliest. The association has conveyed heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families.
