Dallas Mavericks have held off a late fightback from the Oklahoma City Thunder to claim Game 3 with a 93-87 victory.
Dallas Mavericks 93-87 Oklahoma City Thunder (Mavericks lead series 2-1)
The Mavericks shot off the blocks on Saturday night, taking a 15-point lead at quarter-time, which they extended to as much as 23 points early on in the second period.
However, the Thunder showed signs of life after the main break and came out firing.
They edged out the third quarter by two points, before storming home in the fourth but just fell short of the line as the Mavericks drew on all their experience to hold out Oklahoma’s young guns.
Both sides had All Stars that failed to fire; Dirk Nowitzki scored a meagre 18 points for Dallas, while Oklahoma’s Kevin Durant managed 24.
Instead, the Mavericks relied on a well-rounded team effort, with Shawn Marion matching Nowitzki’s 18 points, while Jason Kidd and Jason Terry pitched in with 13 each.
Russell Westbrook led the way for the Thunder with 30 points but apart from himself and Durant, none of their team-mates managed double-digits as the rest of Oklahoma fell short.
Game 4 is set to take place in Oklahoma on Monday, where a Dallas win would all but seal their place in the NBA Finals, especially with home-court advantage in Games 5 and 6.
