Third Kohima Inter-wards Men Football and Women Volley Ball tournament got underway at Seikhazou, D.Khel ground here Tuesday.

The tournament, organized by the NPF 9 A/C Kohima town, was formally kicked off by MLA and advisor sericulture & co-operation Azheto Zhimomi.

Addressing the inaugural session, Azheto lauded the NPF 9- A/C Kohima town unit for taking the initiative not only in politics but in other youth activities including Sports and Music by organizing the 3rd Kohima Town inter-ward tournament.

He reminded that DAN government was giving much emphasis on youth activities including sports and also created Music Task Force for which the youths of the state were now benefited.

MLA told the gathering sportsmen and sportswomen that sports might not be their profession and that the game should not be played only in the field but they should maintain closeness.

Azheto also lauded local MLA Dr.Nicky Kire and termed him as one of the most active MLA in the present government and reminded the need to elect and send such persons as their representative.

Azheto was accompanied by his MLA colleagues Kipili Sangtam, L.Temjen Jamir and host of other party leaders.
Earlier, inaugural function began with invocation by Rev.K.Losü, Pastor, Mao Baptist Church, Kohima and welcome address by Thejangulie Theünuo, president NPF, 9 Kohima Town A/C and special number by Kokliba, Winner Naga Orpheus, 2011 while oath was administered to the participating teams by Angulie, incharge of the tournament.

In the first football match, Ward No.15 A.G drubbed Ward No.4 Naga Bazar by 4:2 goals while in the second match, Ward No.8, New Market drubbed Ward No.19, P.R Hill by a whooping 6:1goals.

Now Ward No.15 A.G will clash with Ward No.16 New Minister Hill/Lerie/NST/Dairy Farm at 3 pm on June 21 next while Ward No.8 New Market will clash with Ward No.14 Poter Lane/O.M.H at 1 pm the same day.

In women’s Volleyball, Ward No.18 Para Medical beat Ward No.15 A.G. and in the second match, Ward No.19 P.R Hill beat Ward No. 14 Poter Lane.

Now Ward No.15 AG will clash with Ward No.17 Agri/Forest/Electrical on June 21 next at 3 pm while Ward No.19 P.R Hill will clash with Ward No.6 D.Block at 2 pm the same day.

In men football tomorrow at 1 pm, Ward No.11 PWD will clash with Ward No.18 Para Medical in the first match while Ward No.5.Kitsubozou will clash with Ward No.12 Upper Chandmari at 3 pm. While, in women volleyball, Ward No.11, PWD will clash with Ward No.4, Naga Bazar (in Group-C) at 3pm.
