NU Lumami campus sports club organises tournament

Lumami Campus Sports Club (LCSC) formed on September 18 in Nagaland University Lumami organised the first Lumami Campus Sports Club Tournament from November 15 to 17 (conducted after office hours) at the club’s games site, University’s Shopping Complex.

The club was led by its president Dr. Tovishe Phucho (Asst. Professor, Deptt of Chemistry) and general secretary, Peter Ki (Public Relations Officer, NU).

The events included badminton, table tennis, chess, carom, and volleyball. Except for chess and volleyball, women members also participated in the tournament. Three teams (Albert’s Boys; Likhase’s Warriors; Tovishe’s Bulls) competed for the Volleyball championship.

In badminton, 20 players vied in men’s singles trophy, while 10 teams took part in the men’s doubles trophy; 14 players for table tennis men’s singles trophy; 16 players for carom men’s singles trophy and six teams for the doubles trophy.

Chaired by Likhase Sangtam (Asst. Professor, Deptt of Pol. Science), D.K. Mohanty (Finance Officer, NU) graced the opening ceremony as the chief guest with Dr. Baljit Singh Sekhon (Deputy Director of Sports) as the match commissioner. The closing ceremony was graced by Prof. T. Lanusosang (Registrar, NU) as guest of honour.

He also gave away the prizes to the winners. The prizes for the winners in the various events were provided by the University.

Watimenba Longchar and Himatoli won the award for the players of the tournament in men and women categories.
The above two prizes along with two other awards for ‘best spectator’ were sponsored by Dr. Dipak Sinha (Associate Prof, Deptt of Chemistry).
