Satellite tagged Amur Falcon ‘Naga’ is about to compete the third cycle while ‘Pangti’ has become inactive as no signals have been received.
This was informed to media by Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Force, M.Lokeswara Rao IFS.
According to Rao, Naga is about to complete third cycle and also about to cover a distance of 60000 km. At present Naga is flying over Gujarat, Rao said.
Pangti became inactive after completing two cycles covering a distance of 40000 km.
On November 7, 2013, the Naga, Pangti and Wokha—the three Amur falcons, tagged with satellite chips weighing five grams each on their back were released.
However, Wokha became inactive from the beginning, Rao said.
Naga (male) has Colour Ring number KAM, Ring Number C56801; Wokha (female) Colour Ring Number KCM, Ring Number C56802 and another female Pangti has Colour Ring Number KFM, Ring Number C56803.
Since then it became possible to track their migration routes hitherto unknown to ornithologists.
