The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) on Wednesday will picket the chief Engineer (CE) Power department office located at AG colony. Informing this over phone NSF president Kelhouneizo Yhome said that the picket was called due to the department’s failure to initiate positive steps in response to the ‘Representation’ and ‘Ultimatum’ of the NSF submitted on June 14 and July 14 to the power minister.
“It would be an indefinite picketing till the government and concerned department give positive response” he added. In their memorandum on June 14, the Federation strongly denounced the backdoor appointments in the Power department and urged the government to immediately cancel the appointments and route it to the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) for requisition within five days so that the educated youth of Nagaland are given ample opportunity to compete in the right platform.
The NSF disclosed that in addition to the previous list of backdoor appointments, it included 5 post of JE (E); 2 post of HE (C); 1 post of S.O (E) Gr.-II; 1 post of J.E (M); 3 posts of SDO (E) Class-I (Gazetted).
60-day ultimatum: Meanwhile, expressing its resentment over alleged backdoor appointments of sub-divisional officers (SDOs) and junior engineers (JEs) in all government departments of engineering establishments, the NSF Tuesday served 60-day ultimatum on the state government demanding cancellation of all those “unlawful appointees.” Failure to comply with its demand, the NSF warned it would initiate “own course of action” against the government.
In a representation to state chief secretary, the federation president Kelhouneizo Yhome and general secretary N. Ejanthung Ngullie demanded strict adherence to 60% vacancies to be appointed through the commission (NPSC) and immediate cancellation of those “unlawful appointees.”
They also demanded that no extensions be offered to the already employed contract personnel so that requisition could be sent to NPSC for “open recruitment, and for that matter, any direct recruitment or departmental promotion be exercised as per the prescribed norms.”
